CAT 2023- Score Calculator & Percentile Predictor

After each CAT Exam, one question that burns in the mind of every CAT aspirant is “How have I performed?” Well, Career Launcher aims to answer this question with our CAT 2020 Score Calculator & Percentile Predictor. Over the years, we have collected the information of CAT attempts of thousands of candidates and with the help of Machine Learning techniques have been able to build a robust model of percentile prediction which has proven its worth over the years. Some of the standout results from CAT 2019 are given below:

Within 0.5%ile - Prediction accuracy of 97.7% for candidates scoring above 98%ile and 75.6% accuracy for candidates scoring above 95%ile

Within 1%ile - Prediction accuracy of 97.7%ile for candidates scoring above 98%ile, 97.5% accuracy for candidates scoring above 95%ile and 92.3% accuracy for candidates scoring above 90%ile.

CAT 2020 Expected Score and Cut Off

One thing that sparks the curiosity of every CAT 2020 Aspirant is the CAT 2020 Expected Percentile, Score and cut off for the coveted 99%ile. While this depends heavily on the level of difficulty of the CAT 2020 Exam and applicants themselves, a fairly accurate estimate can be drawn on the basis of the past few CAT Exams. The estimates given below are based on the judgments of the SubodhCheM-Gurus who have vast experience in the domain.

Normalization in CAT 2020 across 3 Slots

With the CAT 2020 Exam being conducted across 3 slots this year (Slot 1 - 8:30AM-10:30AM, Slot 2 - 12:30PM-2:30PM, Slot 3 - 4:30PM-6:30PM), there is an additional focus on normalization of the CAT score. In order to calculate the scaled score for all the students, some of the parameters which are calculated are:

Mean and Standard Deviation of each section according to your slot (Slot 1,2 or 3)

Mean and Standard Deviation of each section for everyone who appeared for CAT 2020

Mean raw score of 0.1% of the top scorers in each section slot-wise (Slot 1,2,3)

Mean raw score of 0.1% of the top scorers across everyone appearing for CAT 2020

Following this, based on a formula which is available to view on the official CAT 2020 website, the scaled score of each student is calculated. The main function of the normalization is to ensure that each student is a level ground when it comes to the CAT score.

CAT 2020 Analysis & Cut Off

Although CAT 2020 is expected to very different from previous CAT Exams due to the 2 hour time limit, the level of difficulty of CAT 2020 Exam is expected to remain along similar lines to CAT 2019. The VARC section of CAT 2020 might be slightly easier as compared to CAT 2019 while the DILR section is expected to remain the same as CAT 2019. The QA section of CAT 2020 may be slightly more difficult compared to CAT 2019 which will mean that the overall CAT 2020 Paper would be of a comparable difficulty level to last year. The detailed CAT 2020 Analysis and Cut Off will be updated on this page right after the exam. SubodhCheM Gurus will be taking the CAT 2020 in all three slots and, therefore, you will witness the most comprehensive and accurate analysis here.

CAT 2020: Updated Exam Pattern, Preparation, Notification, Exam Date, Syllabus, Selection Procedure

CAT (Common Admission Test) is the premium entrance exam held by IIMs for admissions into top business schools. The CAT Exam score is accepted as a qualifier in over a 100 Business Schools. It is the most popular amongst the MBA Entrance Exams due to the vast number of colleges accepting the CAT Score including the top B-Schools in India such as IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, etc.

Like all things in 2020, CAT 2020 has also decided to people a shock with their announcement on 15th September that the exam duration for CAT 2020 has been reduced from 3 hours to 2 hours with each section having an individual time limit of 40 minutes. This has led to some speculation that the number of questions would be reduced in order to maintain the level of difficulty. It is also possible that the number of questions remains the same while the level of difficulty is reduced making CAT 2020 more of a speed based test. The CAT 2020 Admit Card has been released on 28th October. It will give you details regarding your slot & exam center which is required for you to take the CAT 2020 Exam.

Since CAT 2017, the CAT Exam has released its question paper for public scrutiny which has convinced a few international business schools like Singapore Management University to accept the CAT score for admissions into their business programs.

The CAT Exam is also quite simple in terms of the procedures to be followed.

It starts with the CAT 2020 Notification which has been released on 29th July 2020. The CAT 2020 Notification will also be announced in all the newspaper dailies and informs the candidate on the CAT 2020 Exam Date (29th November 2020) and the CAT 2020 Registration Process.

As per the CAT 2020 Notification, the candidates will be able to fill the CAT Registration form from 5th August onwards with the deadline for the CAT 2020 form-filling being 23rd September 2020. This is an essential step for the candidate where they also fill in their preference of the CAT Exam Center.

In order to be eligible for the CAT Exam, the candidate has to pass at least their Bachelor's degree with at least 50% (for General Category and for candidates from the NC-OBC caste). For SC/ST and Differently Abled (DA) candidates, the percentage required is 45%.

For the Degree to be counted, the University who has awarded the degree has to be recognized by the MHRD.

If the University awards grades or CGPA instead of marks, the conversion factor given by the University has to be used. If there is no conversion factor specified by the University, the CGPA has to be converted into percentage by direct conversion i.e. divide the CGPA received by the highest CGPA possible and multiply the result by 100.

Candidates who have completed their professional degrees with over 50% (45% for SC/ST/PwD) are also eligible for CAT.

The next section includes the work experience details

The penultimate form section to be filled includes the choice of programs that the candidate wishes to apply to (IIM A, IIM B, IIM C, New IIMs, etc.)

CAT Exam 2020 Application Fee

The CAT 2020 Notification has been released. Each candidate has to fill out the CAT 2020 application form (starting from the 5th August 2020) from the official CAT 2020 site by the 23rd September in order to appear for the CAT 2020 exam. The CAT 2020 notification has also disclosed the CAT application fee:

The application fee for General category candidate is Rs 2000

The application fee for SC/ST/PWD category candidates is Rs 1000

The mode of application fee payment is through Credit/Debit Card or Net Banking

CAT Exam 2020 Syllabus

The CAT 2020 exam syllabus will remain the same as the syllabus for CAT 2019. There are three sections in the form of:

Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC)

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR)

Quantitative Aptitude (QA)

The VARC and QA sections consist of 34 questions while the DILR section consists of 32 questions.

Here is the expected marking scheme of CAT 2020.

Each MCQ question has a marking scheme of +3/-1 while the TITA question has no negative marking which makes the marking scheme +3/0.

Each section is allocated 1 hour without exception and time is not carried over from one section to the other.

Therefore the candidate needs to be competent across all sections rather than scoring heavily in any one or two sections. In the same spirit, there are usually sectional cutoffs for most of the better colleges.

The VARC section is majorly interpretation based and not vocabulary based, due to which it does not have a fixed syllabus. Thus reading level and grammar rules of Class X and some practice would allow the candidate to adequately prepare for the CAT exam 2020 syllabus for the VARC section.

The DILR section has no fixed exam syllabus and only practicing different types of sets can help the aspirants prepare for the DILR section of the CAT 2020.

The QA section, like the VARC section, consists of topics from the CBSE Class X syllabus. The major topics in QA include:

Algebra

Arithmetic

Numbers

Geometry

Modern Maths
