The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a standardised multiple-choice computer-adaptive test that is administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). Thousands of students who aspire to pursue a postgraduate degree in management, in India or abroad, choose to take the GMAT exam every year. The exam assesses candidates based on their level of skill and familiarity with basic mathematics, the English language, logical analysis, and critical reasoning.

The exam consists of four sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Integrated Reasoning, and Analytical Writing Assessment; and lasts a total of about 3 hours and 30 minutes including the optional breaks. The GMAT exam can be taken on a date of your choice after registration on the official website. You may choose a nearby test centre for the same, or the online version of the exam that is now available in light of the global pandemic.

The maximum possible GMAT score is 800, and this is considered a perfect score. The total GMAT score is calculated based on your Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning scores. You will receive your score right after your examination is complete, and in addition to this, you will receive a percentile ranking of your score in comparison to other test takers from the previous three years.

GMAT Eligibility

One of the reasons the GMAT is an inclusive exam that nearly anyone with an undergraduate degree can choose to appear for. The minimum age for the GMAT is 13 years, and you can appear for the exam with the relevant permissions from your parent or guardian. Over the age of 18 years, you will not require any such additional documentation. While the GMAT is offered only in the English language, anyone can appear for it irrespective of age, nationality, gender, religion, or academic background. 

If you are unsatisfied with your GMAT score, you can reattempt the GMAT exam. The exam can be taken a maximum of 5 times in a 12-month period, with a minimum gap of 16 days between each attempt. The lifetime attempt limit for the GMAT is 8 times. If you obtain the perfect score of 800, you cannot retake the exam for the following 5 years.
